Heartland Chiropractic + Wellness Center is owned by Dr. Valerie Skow and established in Johnston, Iowa in 2004. Dr. Skow had the vision of creating a clinic that focused on helping individuals and families live their best lives through chiropractic care and healthy living.
HCWC was founded to help babies, children, adults, expecting moms, office workers, athletes and more who are searching for a natural way to live a more abundant, vibrant life.
About Our Heartland Chiropractic Physicians
Since 2004 HCWC has grown to two chiropractic physicians; *Dr. Valerie Skow and *Dr. Lindsay Wilson. Each brings their own talent and passion to our practice. Though all of our physicians offer care for the entire family.
Dr. Skow specializes in working with women through all the ages and stages of life: from the challenges of pregnancy to supporting women caring for children, all the way through menopause and beyond. Dr. Skow wants you to be able to do all the things. She has achieved a fellowship for the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, a distinction for chiropractors specializing in prenatal and pediatric care.
Dr. Lindsay’s focus is on helping patients feel better, move better, and stay active. In 2025, she became certified in upper-body dry needling, offering additional support for pain, tension, and movement issues, especially for athletes and upper-body conditions.
Our doctors will go above and beyond to make sure that you get the attention you need, feeling listened to and cared for. Most importantly, they will get and keep you moving!

We don’t believe in a “one size fits all” approach. Treatment is individualized and goal-oriented. Our methods allow you to learn the necessary skills to keep your body happy and healthy, well after you step out of our office. We offer comprehensive wellness care for your family; including functional medicine, applied kinesiology, Bio Impendence Analysis (BIA), muscle testing, neurologic brain-based exercises and adhesion therapy to name a few!
